December 8^th, 2011 saw the official approval of the membership of CARS by the 79^th General Assembly of the UIC. Incepted in 1922, the Paris-based UIC has more than 200 members spanning 5 continents. CARS is the only Chinese railway company apart from the Ministry of Railway of China that has joined the UIC independently.
